The Institute for theoretical physics (ITP) at the University of Zurich invites applications for Postdoctoral positions in astrophysics and cosmology. A successful postdoctoral candidate should be able to carry out a vigorous independent research program in theoretical or computational astrophysics or cosmology interacting with institute members. Postdoctoral appointments will be initially for two years with a possibility for further extension of up to two years (one year at a time). Postdoctoral salaries are in the range 84,000-87,000 CHF (72,000-74,000 USD). Research and travel funds are available.
All postdoctoral candidates should have or expect to obtain a Ph.D. in astronomy, physics,
applied/computational mathematics or a related field before appointment. Interested
applicants should send their CV, bibliography, and statement of research interests, as
well as arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent
to
S. Wilde-Duvernay, pdra@physik.unizh.ch, (electronic submission encouraged)
or to

Applicants will automatically be considered for all positions. Review of applications will begin immediately and all applications received by January 1, 2009 will receive full consideration.
Potential candidates are encouraged to contact the faculty for further information.
The astrophysics faculty at the University of Zurich are George Lake,
Ben Moore, and Uros Seljak.
Research interests include galaxy formation and dynamics, planet formation,
gravitational lensing, gravitational waves, dark matter, early universe, cosmic microwave background
and large scale structure of the universe. Theoretical research at the University of Zurich is
complemented by the experimental groups at ETH. Scientific computing infrastructure
is very strong with a cluster of 700 state-of-art CPUs with an advanced network.
